You’ve probably heard or read about Yahoo (aka Yahoo!) at least once in your life if you’re a 21st-century resident. However, despite the fact that Yahoo has been a leader on the internet since its inception (1995), you may not know exactly what it is or what it does. Even those who already use Yahoo may not be aware of all the possibilities available to them! So let’s get everyone up to speed and address those two basic questions: what is Yahoo and how to use it effectively to gain profit.

You must first register on Yahoo and create a Yahoo account in order to access some of the best things Yahoo has to offer. You can read the news, check the weather, and track stock prices on Yahoo without joining up, but everything gets better and more personalized if you have your own Yahoo account.

Creating a new Yahoo account is a simple and straightforward procedure. We’ll show you how to do it step by step in this article.

Create Yahoo Mail Account

You’ll need a computer with an internet connection to begin the Yahoo account registration process. Go to www.yahoo.com in any web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari). You’ll see something like this on your homepage:

There is no direct link to a new account registration on the homepage, but you may get there by clicking the “Sign in” icon in the upper right hand corner.

This will take you to the Yahoo account login page for those who already have one. Simply click the “create new account” link at the bottom of the page to get started.

You will now be directed to the Yahoo sign up page, where you will fill out your personal information, select a username/email address, and create a password for your account.

Yahoo will propose usernames for you, but you don’t have to use them as long as you choose a name that isn’t already taken. My initial option wasn’t available, as you can see.

If your desired name is already taken, the simplest approach to make it unique is to add some numbers to the end. The following step is to create a password for your Yahoo account. It should be a complicated password that you can remember but that no one else can guess. My initial password choice was an all lowercase dictionary term, which is an extremely weak password that Yahoo does not allow because it exposes your account to hackers.

I chose a password with extra characters, including digits, special characters, and uppercase letters, to make it stronger.

All you have to do now is provide your cell phone number, date of birth, and gender. Your phone number is crucial since it can be used to validate your account and assist you in recovering your password if you forget it. As a result, double-check that your country code is right and that your phone number is valid!

How to Login and Sign Up

Also, clear the option that reads “Stay logged in” if you’re using a shared computer and wish to be instantly signed out when you exit Yahoo. It’s best to leave this box ticked on a home or personal computer so that you’re always logged in.

Simply click the blue “Sign in” button after entering your Yahoo email address and password to access your personalized homepage.

Your name, as well as other information you’ve saved, should now appear in the corner of the homepage (like your location for weather, etc.). You’ve signed up and are ready to go. It appears that I’ve received mail!

If you left the “Stay signed in” option unchecked while logging in, Yahoo will automatically log you out when you leave the site. If you checked this box, or if you just want to double-check that you’re truly signed out, take these steps:

If you haven’t already, return to the Yahoo homepage and look for your name in the upper right-hand corner. When you click on your name, a small drop-down menu should appear.

“Sign Out” is the last option on the menu. If you select this option, you will be returned to the Yahoo homepage without your account information. It’s now safe to walk away from the computer without fear of someone gaining access to your email!
