How to Sell on Facebook Marketplace

Facebook is well-known for allowing users to keep up with friends and family, exchange images, and join interest groups. But did you know that you can use Facebook to sell products and even start an ecommerce business? All you need is a Facebook account that is active!

I’ll show you how to sell on Facebook Marketplace using the tried-and-true methods I propose to Amazon sellers in this tutorial.

What is Facebook Marketplace?

Facebook launched the Marketplace in 2016 and it immediately became a popular platform for selling things to local buyers. When selling locally, Facebook Marketplace is a safer and more user-friendly site than Craigslist.

Facebook distinguishes itself from Craigslist by allowing qualified vendors to offer nationwide delivery for certain types of products, giving them access to a considerably wider client base than local-only sellers.

How big is it? Facebook, for example, has 2.9 billion monthly active users, with an estimated 800 million Marketplace users per month.

People often think of the Marketplace as a clearinghouse for people’s used or unwanted home things because of its origins as a local buy/sell platform. However, because of its shipping capabilities, it’s ideal for retail arbitrage—the practice of purchasing in-demand things from a store and reselling them online for a higher price.

If you’re new to the Marketplace, have a peek around and discover what kinds of things are available. You may buy and sell almost anything on this site, just like on eBay or Craigslist—from vehicles to couches, video games, furniture, and more.

Who should sell on Facebook Marketplace?

The short answer is that it may be anyone! Facebook Marketplace isn’t just for those who want to get rid of items; it’s also for entrepreneurs, ecommerce firms, Amazon sellers, woodworkers, handmade artists, brick-and-mortar establishments, and so on.

In truth, seller techniques on Facebook and other platforms like Amazon and eBay are very similar.

Unlike other ecommerce or reselling platforms, Facebook doesn’t charge you anything to list your things if you sell them locally. When a consumer orders shipping, the seller is only charged 5% of the total selling price. For new and experienced ecommerce entrepreneurs, listing products on Facebook is a no-brainer because of the little expense.

What do you need to start selling on Facebook?

To begin selling on Facebook Marketplace, all you need is an active Facebook account. That’s all there is to it! If you want to offer shipping with your listings, you’ll have to go the extra mile and enter your payment and shipping details.

How to sell on Facebook Marketplace as a business

There are three basic ways to sell as a business on Facebook Marketplace. Step-by-step instructions for setting up Facebook Marketplace for business can be found here.

1. Show inventory for retail items

On Facebook Marketplace, businesses and regular Facebook users may easily list retail items.

1. To begin, go to the left navigation menu and select Create new listing.

2. Next, choose the type of listing you want to create.

3. Select up to ten photographs. The best images are always those that are of high quality.

4. Add a title, price, subcategory, condition, description, and availability to your product.

5. You can also provide the product’s color, tags, and SKU number. You can make your approximate location public if you like.

It’s better if you fill out all of the fields. Before making a decision, potential purchasers want to see all of the relevant information.

2. Display items from your Facebook page shop

Facebook Shops has a monthly audience of 250 million people. It’s a massive commerce platform that allows you to have a consistent presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Marketplace.

You must first create a Facebook checkout for your shop before you can begin.

To add Marketplace as a sales channel, follow these steps:

1. Select your shop in Commerce Manager.

2. Select Settings from the left-hand menu.

3. Select Business Assets from the drop-down menu.

4. Select Enable Marketplace from the drop-down menu.

Within 24 hours, eligible products appear on Marketplace.

3. Sell as a business on Marketplace

This is currently only offered to a limited number of merchants. This new Marketplace selling option will be available on Facebook during 2022. You’ll be able to sell as a business on Marketplace rather than attaching it to your personal Facebook account or Shop.
